Historical Background
Browne's Hospital is an Ancient almshouse founded in 1475 by wool merchant William Browne. The hospital is still in use today to accommodate about 12 alms persons. The hospital is noted nationally for the medieval stained glass and the medieval buildings are normally open in the summer at weekends with various exhibitions.

From the inception of the alms house services have been held in the chantry chapel which adjoins the mediaeval accommodation.

A Holy Communion service takes place every Wednesday morning at 10 o'clock and all residents and visitors are welcome.
